Transportation

Government policy on transportation bounces from unrealstic to stupid. Mayor Sadiq Khan new ULEZ charges has been badly thought out are an appalling assault on the motoring public. With the arrival of steam trains in the esarly nineteenth century travel habits changed dramatically, allowing those on low incomes to travel to hotspots and seaside towns. With the invention of the car came mass production changing transport for the average Brit forever.

Great Britain is a small country and unlike the USA there is no space for wide roads on the whole. In London the underground has helped to move people around the capital. Streets are narrow and are not conducive to large number of cars moving around. One of the major issues is the connection of major urban areas and cities need to be connected to aid business and move product around.

The recent cancellation of HS2 northern link is indicative of a government that has no idea of what is required better intercity links and faster travel times. HS2 simply does not offer a good enough deal.

HS2 London to Manchester would take 1 h 41m on the maglev it would take 31 minutes. Maglev estimation of cost 2/3rds the cost p/m of HS2. Climate Change issues have muddied the waters with the unrealistic approach for scrapping all fuel based cars to electric powered cars distorting any intelligent approach to the issues of transportation. The government needs instigate a sensible long term strategy and a greater understanding of technology and research. Japan is turning its economy into a hydrogen based one.
